Unpopular Opinion: There are Steelers highlights from 2024

When the Pittsburgh Steelers are in the dreaded long offseason, there are plenty of ideas to debate. As part of the triumphant trio on the Steelers Preview podcast, I’ve been known to often give a “Dave answer“ to various things as I often like to argue both sides of an issue. With this in mind, a new weekly segment has been born… Unpopular opinion.

There are plenty of arguments both for and against the Pittsburgh Steelers that might not go along with the majority of fans. Oftentimes I believe in these arguments, while other times I simply like to pose a counter argument for ones that are taking it too much to the extreme. For this reason, I’m going to offer some points about the Pittsburgh Steelers that go against the general fan narrative, or at least how I have heard things.

Next up is actually looking at good parts of the Steelers 2024 season…

There are Steelers highlights from 2024

The Steelers season ended horribly. It can’t be denied. Yes, a few of those losses can be scrutinized and the “What If” game could be played, but it’s not ultimately how things played out. The Steelers lost their final four regular season games and were out in the first round of the playoffs.

Even though “it’s not how you start, but how you finish,” it’s not that the start had no value. If the Steelers would have started their season 5–8, they would likely be looking at a top 10 draft pick coming up in the next couple months. Instead, they went to 10–3 and put themselves in a position where they qualified for the postseason. While some may argue that the first result would have been more desirable, that’s not what happened either.

When it comes to that 10–3 start, there is nothing wrong with looking back at those games and talking about the high points of the season. In the moment, there was so much joy to be taken in from the Pittsburgh Steelers. For those fans who can’t look back and think about those positives at all, I feel really sorry for you. I wish you had more joy in your life.

This was the topic on Tuesday night’s Scho Bro Show podcast. We were breaking down our five favorite games of the season for the Steelers, which can be seen in an article here at steelcurtainnetwork.com. What I couldn’t believe is how some people felt that looking at anything positive from this last season is creating more of a problem. I just don’t get it.

Ultimately the Steelers 2024 season was a disappointment. It started with a lot of promise and fell off a cliff. But denying that the ‘starting with promise’ even occurred is revisionist history. The Steelers won 10 of their first 13 games, and no matter how bad they played over the last five it doesn’t change what happened through the beginning of December.

Actually looking at highlights of the season isn’t a bad thing. It can remind you of the joy you may have felt in that moment. The fact that you can’t look back and see that it was a joyous occasion at the time and instead wish to erase it from your memory is something I don’t understand. I’m not saying you shouldn’t, but I am saying you shouldn’t have a problem with those who also can look back and find joy from certain moments of the season.

I realize that, in this case, this probably isn’t a very unpopular opinion among many Steelers fans. Unfortunately, it’s the ‘screaming minority’ who thinks looking at anything positive from this franchise right now because ‘it’s the trendy thing to bash the Steelers’ right now makes it feel as if that’s how fans should react. As for me, I’m going to look back enjoy the good parts of the 2024 season over the next several months as there is no other Steelers football to watch

There was a lot of good this year. I think with a different schedule there might be an extra win or so in there.
I think playing arguably the three best teams in the league followed by the hottest offense in football in the last 19 days of the season really caught up with the team and that’s okay. Absolute brutal way to end the season.

The schedule didn’t do them any favors, that’s for sure.

I do agree with you that there we plenty of good this season though. Sadly, outweighed by the horrible finish to the season.

How can you make adjustments going forward if you don’t look back??

When a team finishes 10-7, no matter how they got there, of course there is some good. When looked at as a whole, though, the bad far outweighed the good even with the 10-7 record. The bottom line is that, at year’s end, it was clear that the Steelers aren’t even close to contending for anything meaningful. Remembering the good moments, while being therapeutic to some, doesn’t remove that finding.
