The Best Remaining Prospects after Day Two of the NFL Draft

That’s a wrap on Day 2 of the NFL Draft! Insanity ensued early again with teams continuing to pass on polarizing QB Shedeur Sanders, but making moves up and down the board for other playmakers for their squads.

Some teams scored impressive value picks on Day 2 from yesterday’s group of Best Remaining Prospects with guys like CB Will Johnson landing with the Arizona Cardinals at Pick 47, or the Ravens seeing ED Mike Green fall in their laps at Pick 59. Even the 3rd Round saw plenty of value with highly ranked players like DT Darius Alexander (65th to Giants), RB Kaleb Johnson (83rd to Steelers), and QB Jalen Milroe (92nd to Seahawks) going much later than consensus would have estimated.

There are still a lot of really solid prospects available ahead of Rounds 4-7, and I expect teams to be very active in jockeying for position for their favorite remaining players. With all that in mind, here are the Top 15 “Best of the Rest” prospects still on the board for selection on Day 3.

1. QB Shedeur Sanders, Colorado
2. DT Joshua Farmer, Florida St.
3. RB Dylan Sampson, Tennessee
4. RB DJ Giddens, Kansas St.
5. WR Jalen Royals, Utah St.

The Shedeur Sanders slide is the worst in Draft history in my opinion. I am shocked he is unselected heading into Rd. 3, even with some of the drama concerns he comes with. Joshua Farmer is disruptive and athletic and should come off the board fast in Rd. 4. Sampson and Giddens are fast, agile RBs with starting upside, and WR Jalen Royals profiles as a big, speedy slot weapon that teams could covet at this point in the Draft.

6. OG Marcus Mbow, Purdue
7. WR Elic Ayomanor, Stanford
8. WR Tory Horton, Colorado St.
9. QB Will Howard, OSU
10. OT Cameron Williams, Texas

Mbow is a powerful interior blocker who could step into a starting role late in his Rookie season in the right system. Ayomanor has a nasty demeanor as a big-bodied pass catcher with inside/outside versatility. I love Tory Horton as a risk/reward outside-the-numbers receiver early on Day 3. Will Howard’s winning pedigree and prototypical size make him an intriguing mid-round selection, and Cam Williams out of Texas will make some team very happy as a tools-y swing tackle.

11. CB Zah Frazier, UTSA
12. ED Bradyn Swinson, LSU
13. DT CJ West, Indiana
14. OG Miles Frazier, LSU
15. TE Gunnar Helm, Texas

If you love long, physical CBs, Zah Frazier is your guy. He’s a traits pick with tons of upside. You can’t watch Swinson rush the passer and not think he’s going to be an impactful rotational sack artist in the NFL. CJ West and Miles Frazier are nasty trench warriors with power and motor; they just happen to play on opposite sides of the ball. Finally, Helm’s impressive college production and seam stretching ability should earn him an early Day 3 look.

I’ll plump the first counterintuitive pick here. Would love to see the Steelers take Mbow in Round 4. Finishes depth and potentially creates a dominant OLine for years to come. Though I’d be perfectly happy with Sanders if his slide continues (highly unlikely) or Howard (more possible).

Fliers on CB and WR in the remaining rounds – guys with ST potential who could surprise.
