Steelers Surprise many by Hosting Projected 1st Round QB Prospect
The 2025 NFL Draft is approaching, and the Pittsburgh Steelers enter the time of the offseason filled with Pro Days and Pre-Draft visits, of which they are allotted 30 for non-local prospects. Getting these guys in the building helps in multiple ways. From deep-diving medical evaluations to comprehensive in-person interviews, it’s a chance for the Steelers to really get a bead on specific prospects they want to really get to know before Draft Day rolls around.
The other major benefit is for us as fans. Since these visits are limited, it really helps to narrow down which prospects and position groups are of the most interest to the team in this NFL Draft process. If a player comes for a Top 30 Visit, it’s not a smokescreen, it’s because there is real interest between the organization and prospect.
On Tuesday, to the surprise of many in Steelers Nation, it was reported that the team would play host to the polarizing Quarterback out of Colorado, Shedeur Sanders.

Jeremy Betz’s Scouting Report:
Sanders is one of the most difficult evaluations of any quarterback from the last several years. He epitomizes toughness in the pocket, displays good touch and accuracy on his throws, and possesses a buttery smooth release that looks effortless when he’s in the groove. On the other hand, he doesn’t have high-end arm strength, and his ability to make full-field reads and operate an NFL-style offense is a huge question mark. It’s highly documented that the Colorado offense used more Play Action than any other team over the course of Sanders’ time as the starter, and their offensive line was an unmitigated disaster, especially in 2024. Sanders shows NFL starter abilities when provided a clean pocket and in an offense that is designed to make things easier on the QB through PA concepts and a run-first mentality. Overall, Sanders grades out as a Round 2 Quarterback in my eyes, although he will very likely get pushed up in this draft due to the lack of exciting prospects at the position. His fit in Pittsburgh in Arthur Smith’s offense would be a good match, but if Pittsburgh is looking for a potential franchise guy, I don’t know if Sanders can become that player.

I have no problem with the Steelers bringing Sanders in for a visit. They need to do their homework on players who might be there at No. 21, and you have to wonder if Sanders will experience a big-time slide in the draft.
That doesn’t mean I want the team to draft him if he’s there at 21…
