Steelers reportedly signing cornerback Brandin Echols

As the 2025 NFL league year kicked off at 4 PM, it was reported by Jordan Schultz that the Steelers have agreed to terms with former New York Jets cornerback Brandin Echols.

A six round pick by the Jets and the 2021 NFL draft Brandin Echols played out the four years of his rookie contract by appearing in 57 games with 19 starts. With 122 combined tackles, Echols also has one fumble recovery, five interceptions with two being returned for touchdowns, and 16 passes defensed.

The majority of Echols defensive action came in his rookie year of 2021 when he started all 14 games in which he appeared and played 760 defensive snaps. His next two seasons had most of Echols action coming on special teams playing over 200 special teams snaps in each season and not even registering 150 snaps on defense. In 2024, Echols started four games and played over 400 defensive snaps and 185 special team snaps.

Exactly where Echols fits on the Steelers is yet to be determined. Echols is known for playing both inside and outside cornerback, although his snaps at outside corner greatly outnumber those in the slot according to Pro Football Focus.

With this being merely a report of the signing as the league year kicks off, the financial terms of the agreement are not known at this time.

UPDATE: The Steelers have officially announced the signing of Echols to a two year deal.
