Steelers reportedly land WR DK Metcalf via trade with the Seahawks

The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a gaping hole at the wide receiver position for over a year, and it seems they have finally addressed the position via trade.

The trade is with the Seattle Seahawks for star receiver DK Metcalf. The news was first reported by Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

As for the compensation, here is what we are hearing at this time:

The Steelers sending a 2nd Round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft for Metcalf’s skill set for the next 5 years seems to be a fair price for a prized receiver. As for Metcalf’s success in the league, here is what he produced in 2024:

Games: 15
Receptions: 66
Yards: 992
TD: 5

Metcalf’s presence alone makes the Steelers offense immediately better than the one they put on the field in 2024, but the next question everyone wants to know is who will be throwing Metcalf passes in the near future?

Sources suggest the Steelers want Justin Fields back for 2025, but that might not be a lock at the moment with Fields wanting to test his market and see what other teams might be looking to pay him for his services. Obviously, bringing a receiver like Metcalf to the team should be a good selling point, proving they have a commodity at the receiver position and a quarterback wouldn’t be coming to the team with George Pickens and an otherwise empty cupboard.

UPDATE:

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the trade between the Seahawks and Steelers didn’t just entail a 2nd Round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, it also has the two teams swapping 6th and 7th Round picks. This per Schefter:

“The Steelers are sending a second-round draft pick to the Seahawks and flipping picks with Seattle in the sixth and seventh rounds, sources said.”

We will work to try and get further confirmation on the pick swap, considering the Steelers don’t possess a 6th Round pick after trading that pick to the Chicago Bears for Justin Fields last offseason.

I honestly don’t know how to feel about this. He’s a freak for sure, but holy hells. This confirms two things:

  1. WR is low on the draft list.
  2. Russ is coming back.

The compensation is insane, and as for personalities, it’s going to be nasty. Pickens has a huge ego, DK has a pretty big one, as well. I can hear echoes of Keyshawn Johnson right now, lol.

Idk if this confirms Russ is coming back. It could, and I think it’s a possibility. But I don’t think Russ is all of a sudden their preferred option. I think it’s more a coincidence that Russ and DK are former teammates, and it might make the position sweeter for Russ if ever got it.

I say if Pickens has a bruised ego you draft his successor . I really like this move any QB should want to fire passes to DK & GP . Now if we could snag Chubb , look out !

I don’t. If they trade him they’re right back in the only one real WR situation they floundered through for a year. Never know though, next weeks gonna be fun!

I’m hoping GP can see how advantageous it could be for him to have a talent and physical presence like DK opposite him in the lineup. These are two WR1 caliber players on the same team. If we can solve the OL issues and figure out who’s going to throw to them that could be a scary duo for the rest of the league. But, alas, WR divas be acting like WR divas.

I like DK a lot but if this team brings back Russ or goes with Fields then I won’t watch. I gave out 2 options for fans and yes I know neither are great but besides taking 1 in the draft(obviosuly in the mid rounds) I can’t find many other options for the Steelers.

Leth the pushback begin.

As moved as I’m not by your threat to “not watch” if your QB of choice is not acquired by the Steelers, I’m afraid I can’t help make this happen for you. You should email your choices, and ultimatum to Omar Khan.

“Gee what a great idea” “I’ll get on that right away” Oh BTW before I forget is there anything else I can do for ya, Say create a time machine and travel to the 26 draft to see who the Steelers pick?

Wow! Great news.
A proven stud WR seems like a very good return on a 2nd rd draft pick.
Other teams have to now account for two big, fast, physical deep threats.

First, I’d rather have DK, than any of the WR’s OK “missed” on last season, so yay!

Second, I hope this gets the wheels rolling with the QB of choice.

I like this I thiiink??? But wheeew, pricey! Sooo, really they just got a proven #1 WR with their 2nd round pick, but he costs 30+ million….I’m warming up to it. Can’t wait for some film on how he fits in – logically he’s in the A.J. Brown role.

I love the trade, but I don’t love the contract. I hope he lives up to it. Also, if this was made with the idea of reuniting him with Russ, I don’t love that either.

And is he going to dye his hair yellow like he did dying it blue in Seattle?
