Steelers opponent in Dublin not official, but looking more likely

The Pittsburgh Steelers are headed to Dublin, Ireland in 2025. The Steelers will be the designated home team in the first regular season game in Ireland in NFL history.

As for the official date and opponent, those will not be announced until closer to the NFL schedule release.

While there might not be an official announcement, when it was stated the Steelers would host the game in Ireland there were plenty of rumors and speculation. The date which has been thrown out, and the only one I have seen, is for the Steelers to play September 28, which would be Week 4 in 2025.

As for the opponent, there are only so many possibilities. The Steelers have nine opponents in 2025 in which they play at home. With division games being a home game for each team, they have only been used once since 2019, and an AFC North game has never been played internationally. Additionally, two of the Steelers other six home opponents, the Dolphins and the Colts, host international games this coming season. This would not necessarily preclude these opponents, but it makes the likelihood much less.

The four opponents left who remain a larger possibility are the Buffalo Bills, the Green Bay Packers, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Seattle Seahawks. So far, the only team who has been rumored to be the Steelerers opponent in Dublin has been the Green Bay Packers.

On Tuesday, The NFL announced additional Global Marketing Rights for NFL teams. Interestingly, one of the teams given rights in Ireland was the Green Bay Packers.

While this does not cement the Packers is the Steelers apartment this season in Ireland, it doesn’t retract from the rumor that it will be Green Bay facing the Steelers in Dublin.

As for the Steelers global marketing rights, they were previously granted rights for Ireland. In all, there are five NFL teams with Global Marketing Rights in Ireland. Other than the Steelers and Packers, the Chiefs, Jaguars, and Jets also have marketing rights. But out of those teams, only the Packers are scheduled to play a road game against Pittsburgh this season.

For those Steelers fans making plans to attend the game in Ireland, it’s probably not wise to be booking the flights for a specific date just yet. Additionally, the Packers fans are probably better to hold off making plans to attend as well. But when the NFL officially announces the matchup in Ireland, there’s a good chance there will be little surprise.
