Steelers land WR DK Metcalf via trade with the Seahawks

The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a gaping hole at the wide receiver position for over a year, and it seems they have finally addressed the position via trade.

The trade is with the Seattle Seahawks for star receiver DK Metcalf. The news was first reported by Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

As for the compensation, here is what we are hearing at this time:

The Steelers sending a 2nd Round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft for Metcalf’s skill set for the next 5 years seems to be a fair price for a prized receiver. As for Metcalf’s success in the league, here is what he produced in 2024:

Games: 15
Receptions: 66
Yards: 992
TD: 5

Metcalf’s presence alone makes the Steelers offense immediately better than the one they put on the field in 2024, but the next question everyone wants to know is who will be throwing Metcalf passes in the near future?

Sources suggest the Steelers want Justin Fields back for 2025, but that might not be a lock at the moment with Fields wanting to test his market and see what other teams might be looking to pay him for his services. Obviously, bringing a receiver like Metcalf to the team should be a good selling point, proving they have a commodity at the receiver position and a quarterback wouldn’t be coming to the team with George Pickens and an otherwise empty cupboard.

UPDATE:

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the trade between the Seahawks and Steelers didn’t just entail a 2nd Round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, it also has the two teams swapping 6th and 7th Round picks. This per Schefter:

“The Steelers are sending a second-round draft pick to the Seahawks and flipping picks with Seattle in the sixth and seventh rounds, sources said.”

We will work to try and get further confirmation on the pick swap, considering the Steelers don’t possess a 6th Round pick after trading that pick to the Chicago Bears for Justin Fields last offseason.
