Steelers Burning Question: How many positions need a starter?
Last season I did the Friday Night Steelers Six Pack and wondered if it was worth doing further. After all, interaction was not great, and sometimes you just have to adjust. So I decided to call an audible, and not just abandon the Friday night meeting of the black-and-gold minds.
Instead of six questions, I wanted to focus solely on one question.
We’ll still do the preamble of what you’re eating/drinking/listening to, but we’ll focus our attention on the one Steelers question of the week. Don’t worry, most weeks I’ll do a bonus/extra credit question for fun. With all that out of the way, let’s get to the question!
How many positions on the Steelers roster need a starter.
To specify, I’m not talking about positions where depth could be added, but positions where you think a starter needs to be acquired in some way (free agency or the NFL Draft).
For me, I think the following positions still need starters:
- Defensive Line – Cam Heyward and Keeanu Benton need proven help, or big-time insertion of youth.
- Running Back – I like Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell, but another solid running back is needed.
- Quarterback – This is obvious. Mason Rudolph could handle the duties, but you still would want to have a QB1.
Other than those three positions, I feel the Steelers now just look to bolster their depth…what say you?
As for what I’m eating, it’s grilled steak and salad for dinner. As for drink, it’s always store bought kombucha, as usual, and the tunes will be whatever my family wants to hear!
Happy Friday everyone!!
Drinking some Jefferson Reserve Whiskey, eating homemade pizza (bacon and pepperoni, and listening to the Draft Dynasty podcast. Can’t argue with your list. Obviously QB is the biggest question mark, but I think Dline is a close 2nd. #rideordiecrew. Have a good weekend everyone.
Bacon and Pepperoni…love a good meatlovers pizza.
I’m still shocked they haven’t made any move on the DLine yet in FA.
Sure feels like they are dialed in on Dline in the 1st round. The whole front office was at the dline day at the combine and they have basically ignored it so I would say they are looking at one in the first.
I was hoping they’d double dip at the position in both FA and the Draft, but Calais Campbell is about the best FA still on the market the last I checked.
I’m drinking Southern Tier Juice Jolt Extra juicy IPA. It’s aptly named! Very fruity smell, and dominant juice flavor. Even at 6.9%you can barely tell there’s alcohol in it. It’s a tad much for me, and I don’t dig the rather lacking carbonation.
Ate most of a honey roasted rotisserie chicken with some mixed vegetables topped with “Wing Dust” I got on a trip to the Burgh – I was hungry after a nice bike ride!
I have Pandora on shuffle with System Of A Down, Gorillaz, and Yacht Rock stations.
As soon as I read the title I said QB, DL, and RB. They’re in much better shape than they were a week ago, but these are big holes that need filling.
Talk about some unique Pandora stations!
I have never been able to get into Yacht Rock. Not sure what it is…
Haha! I like to keep it mixed up.
It’s ok Jeff, if you didn’t grow up in the 70’s and 80’s you probably won’t get Yacht Rock. I love it, it always brings back great memories.
Drinking some Glendronach 12. Not Homer’s favorite (which is the Lagavulin) but still pretty good.
I’m disappointed that they didn’t land a starting-caliber DL in free agency. Not sure why especially with all the cap room they have – I was expecting them to do so and pick another high in the draft. They need four who can play at a high level, and right now they have two, one of whom is in a cage match with Father Time.
As for QB, I say #RideWithRudy. Forget the Aaron Rodgers clown show. You’ll end up in the same place either way, and Rudy will be way more fun to root for.
RB in the draft was always expected.
I’m joining you as a hardcore #RideWithRudy guy!! I’ll help drive that ship!
Hey all! I’m drinking — SHOCK — Sun King’s GFJ IPA. Seeing as tomorrow is my birthday, my girls came up from Indy this evening and we went to the local Sun King Brew Pub for a couple beers and some local shop pizza (white pizza w/ pepperoni). Now just enjoying a few more brews while chilling in front of the screen.
I feel like the draft needs to have a starting DL & RB. I also think we need some combination of guys to compete at QB, CB, slot CB, WR. I am firmly in the “let Mason start”. Honestly, we’re not going far this year — let’s see what he does with a full year and an offense built for him. We already know that he has great touch downfield and isn’t afraid to stand tall & strong in the pocket. Give him a go.
