Steelers Bring in Local Kicker Prospect for Pre-Draft Visit
The 2025 NFL Draft is approaching, and the Pittsburgh Steelers enter the time of the offseason filled with Pro Days and Pre-Draft visits, of which they are allotted 30 for non-local prospects. Getting these guys in the building helps in multiple ways. From deep-diving medical evaluations to comprehensive in-person interviews, it’s a chance for the Steelers to really get a bead on specific prospects they want to really get to know before Draft Day rolls around.
The Steelers latest visitor falls under the “Local Prospect” description and does not count against the team’s allotted 30 non-local visits, and he plays a position that isn’t exactly at the top of the team’s needs list. Let’s take a look at University of Pittsburgh Kicker Ben Sauls who gets an opportunity to work out for the hometown Steelers, a team that knows a thing or two about elite kickers.

Pitt kicker Ben Sauls took a pre-draft visit today with the Steelers. Doesn’t count against 30-player limit because he’s local.

Jeremy Betz’s Scouting Report:
Watching Sauls kick in college was a real treat. He boasts a big, accurate leg and can do everything you want from your placekicker. On Kickoffs, he has the power to kick it through the end zone and enough placement to pin returners into a corner. He has a natural low, driving trajectory, which is good enough to get lengthy Field Goal attempts through the uprights, but can also get him in trouble at times if opponents get their hands up to block. Automatic from under 40 yards throughout his career, gets plenty of height on kicks when he’s not having to power through. If he can limit some of the wobble and add some height on the longer kicks, he has elite potential at the next level. He has a draftable grade in my opinion.

Watching him kick was a real treat. I always considered him almost Mr. Automatic (and I’m shocked NCAA didn’t give him the honors he deserved). “Better call Saul” us Pitt fans would always say, haha.
Anyways, I’d consider this visit more of a friendly get together since the Steelers already have Boz.
I do fully agree that he’d be a draftable kicker and I have a gut feeling he’ll be going to Baltimore.
Draftable grade for a kicker. I am not sure what that means because I don’t think any kicker should be drafted in a 7-round draft. Good summation save the last sentence.
