Steelers appear to part ways with offensive assistant Mike Sullivan
The name Mike Sullivan was already known in the city of Pittsburgh with the Pittsburgh Penguins head coach having that name, but the Pittsburgh Steelers had a Mike Sullivan of their own. Originally hired as the team’s quarterbacks coach, it was Sullivan who joined Eddie Faulkner as the tandem offensive coordinator role when the team fired Matt Canada midway through the 2023 season.
When the team hired Arthur Smith in 2024 as their offensive coordinator, Sullivan was retained as a senior offensive assistant. However, it looks as if the team has parted ways with Sullivan. Alan Saunders had it first, but the Steelers have removed Sullivan from their website in the coach section.
#Steelers senior offensive assistant Mike Sullivan is no longer on the team’s online coaching roster. He was removed at some point this month.https://t.co/CFArvSxwpI

Whether this was a mutual parting of ways, or the Steelers not renewing Sullivan’s contract is unknown at this time. However, the change many fans were clamoring for this offseason is happening, just later than most would have wanted. Throw in the news of Sullivan’s departure with the release of Montravius Adams and Ryan Watts and it has been an eventful day for the black-and-gold.
With the Pittsburgh Penguins also moving on from their Mike Sullivan, it’s a bad day for Sullivan’s in the city of Pittsburgh.
Be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the rest of the offseason and gear up for training camp.
For a second I was all excited, as I got Sullivan mixed up with Pat Meyer (o-line). Why is Pat Meyer still a coach?
A fine question. I’d speculate Coach T.
Has Derek Shelton ever been known as “Mike Sullivan?”
Sadly, no.
This gave me a good chuckle! 😂
Bad day to be named Mike Sullivan as the Penns fired him too.
I’m not a hockey fan. Seems that the NHL fires coaches rather freely, though the NBA may be catching up. RIF isn’t fun, regardless of profession or role.
In other news, Robert Woods signed a one-year deal.
Sullivan was in Pittsburgh a long time. I’m bummed, I like him a lot. Message got stale. Team is terrible, had to do something.
Hey JoeB, Penguin’s roster has aged, too. Management seemingly bears some responsibilty, too. Sullivan should get another coaching job as he is good at his work. Steelers also let roster age until that slide hit in ’80. Messages often are as effective as the listeners’ attention.
Hextall was a terrible GM, and left a mess to clean up as well.
I have absolutely no doubt Sullivan will turn around the next team that’s smart enough to give him a chance. I just hope it’s not NY.
