Pittsburgh Steelers are releasing Montravius Adams
The Pittsburgh Steelers had an effective 2025 NFL Draft, and one which saw them improve their defensive line tremendously with the selections of both Derrick Harmon in Round 1, and Yahya Black in Round 5. Throughout them double-dipping along the line came some obvious consequences for others on the current 90-man offseason roster.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers are planning on releasing nose tackle Montravius Adams.
This shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone, considering the aforementioned draft picks, but also with the team spending a 2nd Round pick two years ago on Keeanu Benton.
Adams was signed off the Saints practice squad in 2021. He appeared in five regular season games with the Steelers and made his first Steelers post-season appearance in their playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
On March 22, 2022, Adams signed a two-year contract extension and went on to play in all 17 regular season games making 12 tackles with one being for a loss as he started in a career high nine games. In 2023 he had 11 solo tackles and 13 assisted tackles in 13 games played. He also recorded a forced fumble against the Cleveland Browns. He made his third career post-season appearance on January 15, 2024. He recorded one assisted tackle as the Steelers lost 17-31 to the Buffalo Bills.
On March 19, 2024, Adams re-signed with the Steelers on a two-year contract. He made his first sack as a member of the Steelers on September 8, 2024 against Kirk Cousins as the Steelers defeated the Atlanta Falcons 18-10. In Week 7’s victory over the New York Jets, Adams suffered a knee injury that led to him being placed on the team’s injured reserve list. He was activated from injured reserve on December 14, 2024.
The 90-man offseason roster is fluid, so expect some more changes with the draft being over and a new crop of players coming into the organization. We’ll have all that for you right here at the Steel Curtain Network as it happens.
Eight-year career is pretty good for the NFL. Maybe he’ll catch on with a new team in a rotational role, unless he wants to move on, instead
.
Unfortunate for Ryan Watts, too. May he find his life’s work.
