NFL planning on scheduling a triple header on Christmas Day in 2025
The National Football League is always looking to find a way to dominate the sports landscape.
And every time they try something, they succeed.
Many sports have tried to go head-to-head with the NFL, and none have succeeded. The only sport to even put a dent in viewer ratings would be college football, and even then the NFL dominates. If we’re being honest, the NFL doesn’t care about anyone else, or their feelings, when it comes to their business. They see other leagues as just another entity in their way of total domination.
MLB Playoffs? Yeah, right.
College Football? Close, but no.
NBA regular season? You have to be kidding me.
The NBA used to own Christmas day in the regular season, and it became a fixture in a lot of homes around the globe. Fans and families would watch NBA basketball as they celebrated the Christmas holiday. Then the NFL got involved.
After last season’s Wednesday Christmas double header, the NFL is adding a third game to their Christmas Day slate of games. There are some factors here which are worth noting. First, the holiday falls on a Thursday this year, so scheduling won’t be as difficult as it was for the “Holiday Remix” last season when the four teams playing on Christmas also played the prior Saturday. Also, all of these games will be streamed on a streaming service.
Check out the run down, per Sharp Football:
so the NFL is indeed taking Christmas from the NBA
the NFL is planning a Christmas TRIPLEHEADER this year (a Thursday) after the success of last year’s 2-game Christmas slate:
Game 1: Netflix
Game 2: Netflix
Game 3: Amazonlast year’s viewership domination:

What shouldn’t be overlooked here isn’t just the NFL adding a third game to their schedule on the Christmas holiday, but also how dominant the games were last season. The NFL had over 24 million viewers for Steelers vs. Chiefs and Texans vs. Ravens on Christmas day, and that is why they are going to keep doing this no matter the circumstances.
The NBA can’t be happy, but the NFL doesn’t care. They are worried about one thing and one thing only — making money. Fans watched last year, and they’ll watch again in 2025. In other words, the NFL is taking over more days on the calendar and they won’t be thinking twice about it.
Be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the rest of the free agency and the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.
I wonder if they will have a team play every Christmas like the Lions and Cowboys do on Thanksgiving. Idk how that tradition started. Steelers seem like they fit the mold of a Christmas team. Cold weather, historic franchise, good tv ratings, etc. I know SCN writers would not enjoy it, so for their sake I’ll be against it. But I think Christmas football is here to stay.
The Lions / Cowboys thing on Thanksgiving is completely annoying to me. While I care about some traditions, I don’t care about that one. Those games should be rotated if you ask me.
What I despise the most about the Thanksgiving games is how NFC dominant they are. Get some AFC blood in the mix!
This is gross. I’m sure everyone involved in the game day wants to spend Christmas at a stadium, etc. Money out-weighs family time, for both participants and fans.
The NHL Winter Classic outdoor game on New Year’s Day was a really cool idea that they completely watered down to the point of it being a big yawn-fest now. Perhaps the NFL will learn the same lesson with their overexposure.
