Former Steelers lineman Nate Herbig signs with the Commanders
The lengthy list of Pittsburgh Steelers free agents from 2024 continues into the weekend with it being made public Friday offensive lineman Nate Herbig is signing a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders.
This per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN:

Herbig spent the last two seasons with the Steelers, and a large part of him being a part of the organization can be traced back to his brother, Nick, being drafted out of Wisconsin.
Nonetheless, the Steelers choose to not re-sign Herbig, and they continue to look for a versatile interior offensive lineman who can back-up at both guard positions and at center. Something Herbig had experience doing throughout his time in the NFL. It should be noted last season Herbig tore his labrum in his shoulder and spent the entire 2024 season on Injured Reserve (IR).
How will the Steelers address the offensive line this offseason is anyone’s guess. The hope was they will get a veteran tackle who could swing to both right and left tackle if need be, and some added depth on the interior. To date, the Steelers haven’t done either, choosing to not address the offensive line yet.
Be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the rest of free agency, and the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.
I’m sorry to see Nasty Nate go. I wish it would have worked out better. Good luck Nate.
