Another Steelers free agent gone as Mike Williams signs with the Chargers

Another day in NFL Free Agency down, and another Pittsburgh Steelers free agent to find a new home in 2025. To be even more specific, another Steelers player to join the Los Angeles Chargers.

Following in the steps of Najee Harris and Donte Jackson, the Los Angeles Chargers are signing wide receiver Mike Williams. This per Jordan Shultz of Bleacher Report:

According to Shultz, the deal is a 1-year contract worth up to $6 million dollars, which will absolutely help the Steelers in the ever-popular compensatory pick formula which has been getting a lot of attention around the fan base this offseason.

If you recall, Williams was a trade deadline acquisition, coming from the New York Jets, and he did provide some timely plays when called upon in 2024. The biggest play of his time with the Steelers was his game-winning touchdown catch vs. the Washington Commanders, which was also his first target and reception in the black-and-gold.

However, the majority of Williams’ time in Pittsburgh had fans wondering why the team wasn’t utilizing him more in the offense. Nonetheless, Williams will reunite with the team who drafted him, and will be catching passes from Justin Herbert in L.A. next season.

As for what’s next for the Steelers? Stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the team as they prepare for the rest of free agency, and the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.

I find myself posting or thinking this a lot. “I don’t know what the Steelers are thinking or doing. I don’t think it was our wr that was the problem. It was a poor line and poor qb play. We are going to end up with Kirk cousins.
