5 players mentioned by Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan at Tuesday’s press conference

The 2025 NFL draft is almost here! Ahead of the action later this week, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan held their pre-draft press conference on Tuesday. Although the main focus was dealing with the draft, there were a few questions in regards to players currently on the Steelers roster. For that reason, it is once again time for a players mentioned article. Remember these are current members of the Pittsburgh Steelers where a specific question was asked during the Q&A period.

George Pickens & DK Metcalf

Omar Khanwas asked, in regards to what the Steelers might do in the draft at wide receiver and also any interest they might have to try to get back into the second round, if George Pickens’ contract situation play into either of those situations or scenarios?

“No, we’re glad we have George and DK here. I think they’re going to be exciting for everyone to watch. Excited to have DK here, but no.”

In a follow-up question, Khan was asked if he deems it to be an important thing for the club to get back in the second round, or at least acquire one more pick, before the third day.

“You know, we’ll see how things shake out. I’ll say this, you know, we gave up a second for DK, and I’m so excited that we did that. Having him here is great. And, you know, obviously, when you get to the draft, you get excited about a lot of players, I wish I had 50 picks right now, you know, because there’sa lot of good players out there, and you know, we’ll see how it shakes out.”

Kenneth Gainwell & Jaylen Warren

Coach Tomlin was asked, since the Steelers picked up Kenneth Gainwell and this draft looks to be a really good running back class, what is his outlook on Jaylen Warren entering this season and if he is a RB1 type that can he handle the load.

“I certainly feel comfortable with his ability to do so. He got hampered by injury in 2024. He appears to be ready to answer that. I know he’s really excited about his opportunity. I don’t think that myself or anyone within the organization question his talents in regard tomanaging, the ability to manage, potentially that role.”

Juan Thornhill

Coach Tomlin was asked about, after putting the three-safety package in a couple years ago, how important is that the Steelers have somebody to go to that going forward.

“And we’ve signed Thornhill.”
