2024 Steelers Exit Interviews: Spencer Anderson and Calvin Anderson
The Pittsburgh Steelers 2024 NFL season has come to a close. Because the Steelers are among the 31 teams who did not finish fulfilling their ultimate goal, they are in the process of wrapping up their season and moving forward into 2025.
Since the Steelers conduct exit interviews with all their players, and the fact I have done these articles in the past, we thought we would do them yet again here at Steel Curtain Network. By outlining two players each day, we will be able to look at their season in retrospect as well as looking toward the future. Since Coach Tomlin has previously stated he starts his interviews with rookies and those heading into free agency, we will attempt to do the same to some degree. To start, we will pair the most recent draftees with another player at the same position (if possible) as we work through this process to eventually cover the entire Steelers roster.
Next up are offensive linemen Spencer Anderson and Calvin Anderson.
Spencer Anderson
Position: Offensive Lineman
Years with the Steelers: 2
Years in the NFL: 2
Contract Status: Signed through 2026
Contract Details: $1,049,446 salary cap hit for 2025. Would cost the Steelers $38,892 in dead money if released and save $1,010,554.
Games played in 2024: 17 regular season
Games started in 2024: 4 regular season
Snaps (regular season): 310 (offense), 78 (special teams)
PFF score: 56.7 (57th of 77)
Notable stats: Spencer Anderson had 2 penalties called on him in 2024 and allowed one sack with 10 total pressures.
Notes: For a seventh round draft pick to be a reserved player across multiple spots on the offensive line and spot starting occasionally without a massive fall off in production, it is quite the value for the Steelers. I don’t know if Spencer Anderson will develop into an NFL starter, but he has an important role with the Steelers and should continue to maintain it over the rest of his rookie contract.
Calvin Anderson
Position: Offensive Tackle
Years with the Steelers: 1
Years in the NFL: 5
Contract Status: Free Agent
Contract Details: Contract expiring with no dead money.
Games played in 2024: 4 regular season
Games started in 2024: 0 regular season
Snaps (regular season): 11 (offense), 1 (special teams)
PFF score: 68.9 (DNQ for ranking)
Notable stats: Calvin Anderson had no penalties called on him in 2024 and allowed one sack with two total pressures.
Notes: One thing missing from Calvin Anderson is his 29 snaps played in the Steelers Wild Card Game coming in for the injured Dan Moore. Although Anderson had a tough time in Week 8 where he came in for one snap and gave up a sack, he performed well in limited action two weeks before and held up well when the Steelers playoff game. He joined the Steelers after the injury to Troy Fautanu in order to give tackle depth, but also spent the final four weeks of the regular season on IR before returning for the postseason. Although he’s not a player that moves the needle a lot, if the Steelers brought Calvin Anderson back for training camp on a minimum deal it would not be terrible.
Make sure you check back each day for another set of exit interviews. If you have missed any of the previous articles, they are listed here:
Troy Fautanu & Broderick Jones
Zach Frazier & Ryan McCollum
Roman Wilson & Van Jefferson
Payton Wilson & Patrick Queen
Mason McCormick & James Daniels
Logan Lee & Isaiahh Loudermilk
Ryan Watts & Damontae Kazee
Joey Porter Jr. & James Pierre
Keeanu Benton & Montravius Adams
Darnell Washington & Pat Freiermuth
Nick Herbig & Jeremiah Moon
Cory Trice Jr. & Donte Jackson
Spencer Anderson is the Ben Skowronek of the offensive line. He does everything you ask of him/want in your backup offensive lineman and then some. These type of nitty gritty players are some of my favorites. I think BAD could use a Spencer Anderson jersey if he doesn’t have one yet 😉
Those are good roles for seven round draft picks. If you can get that out of a 7th every year you would gladly take it.
