2024 Steelers Exit Interviews: Mark Robinson and Elandon Roberts

The Pittsburgh Steelers 2024 NFL season has come to a close. Because the Steelers are among the 31 teams who did not finish fulfilling their ultimate goal, they are in the process of wrapping up their season and moving forward into 2025.

Since the Steelers conduct exit interviews with all their players, and the fact I have done these articles in the past, we thought we would do them yet again here at Steel Curtain Network. By outlining two players each day, we will be able to look at their season in retrospect as well as looking toward the future. Since Coach Tomlin has previously stated he starts his interviews with rookies and those heading into free agency, we will attempt to do the same to some degree. To start, we will pair the most recent draftees with another player at the same position (if possible) as we work through this process to eventually cover the entire Steelers roster.

Next up are linebackers Mark Robinson and Elandon Roberts.

Mark Robinson

Position: Linebacker
Years with the Steelers: 3
Years in the NFL: 3
Contract Status: Signed through 2025
Contract Details: $1,128,089 salary cap hit for 2025. Would cost the Steelers $28,089 in dead money if released and save $1,100,000.
Games played in 2024: 17 regular season
Games started in 2024: 0 regular season
Snaps (regular season): 8 (defense), 301 (special teams)
PFF score: 71.2 (DNQ for ranking)
Notable stats: Robinson had six tackles and two forced fumbles.

Notes: Although rarely used on defense, Mark Robinson did provide the Steelers with quality special teams play with a couple big hits forcing fumbles. Going into the last year of his rookie deal, Robinson will probably find his way onto the roster again as a bottom guy on the depth chart and giving special teams play for a low salary cap hit.

Elandon Roberts

Position: Linebacker
Years with the Steelers: 2
Years in the NFL: 9
Contract Status: Free Agent
Contract Details: Contract expiring with no dead money.
Games played in 2024: 17 regular season
Games started in 2024: 14 regular season
Snaps (regular season): 478 (defense), 92 (special teams)
PFF score: 79.7 (8th of 84)
Notable stats: Roberts had 46 tackles, 5 of which were for loss, 1.0 sacks, and a forced fumble.

Notes: If I had to choose one member of the 2024 Steelers who is a free agent who will back with the team next year, I would pick Elandon Roberts. A great teammate and giving the Steelers quality play at the position when utilized in the best situations, Roberts likely would not cost the Steelers much, especially since he stated that he wants to finish his career in Pittsburgh. Personally, I think the Steelers should make it happen.

Roberts is a must to bring back, his leadership and old school style is something that any good defensive unit needs to be able to deploy in certain situations. Another 2 year deal would be something that I would be interested in them getting done.
