2024 Steelers Exit Interviews: Cameron Heyward and Chris Boswell

The Pittsburgh Steelers 2024 NFL season has come to a close. Because the Steelers are among the 31 teams who did not finish fulfilling their ultimate goal, they are in the process of wrapping up their season and moving forward into 2025.

Since the Steelers conduct exit interviews with all their players, and the fact I have done these articles in the past, we thought we would do them yet again here at Steel Curtain Network. By outlining two players each day, we will be able to look at their season in retrospect as well as looking toward the future. Since Coach Tomlin has previously stated he starts his interviews with rookies and those heading into free agency, we will attempt to do the same to some degree. To start, we will pair the most recent draftees with another player at the same position (if possible) as we work through this process to eventually cover the entire Steelers roster.

To finish up we have 2024 All-Pro players Cameron Heyward and Chris Boswell.

Cameron Heyward

Position: Defensive Tackle
Years with the Steelers: 14
Years in the NFL: 14
Contract Status: Signed through 2026
Contract Details: $19,650,000 salary cap hit for 2025. Would cost the Steelers $9,800,000 in dead money if released and save $9,850,000.
Games played in 2024: 17 regular season
Games started in 2024: 17 regular season
Snaps (regular season): 778 (defense), 123 (special teams)
PFF score: 90.1 (2nd of 118)
Notable stats: Heyward had 71 tackles, 12 of which were for loss, 8.0 sacks, and 11 passes defensed.

Notes: There were a lot of Steelers fans that were concerned about Cam Heyward following the 2023 season. After missing six games and playing the rest of the season injured, there was a narrative that Father Time was catching up. But after signing a low risk deal with the Steelers last offseason, Heyward turned in arguably his best performance of his career. Father Time is undefeated and will eventually catch up with Cam, but as long as the Steelers can they should ride what they can get from Heyward for as long as possible.

Chris Boswell

Position: Kicker
Years with the Steelers: 10
Years in the NFL: 10
Contract Status: Signed through 2026
Contract Details: $4,720,000 salary cap hit for 2025. Would cost the Steelers $3,200,000 in dead money if released and save $1,520,000.
Games played in 2024: 17 regular season
Games started in 2024: 0 regular season
Snaps (regular season): 170 (special teams)
PFF score: 92.3 (2nd of 43)
Notable stats: Boswell made an NFL-leading 41 field goals on 43 attempts with 13 made from 50 yards or more. Boswell was also 35 of 35 in extra points.

Notes: It’s about time. Chris Boswell finally was recognized as the best kicker in the NFL as he was selected First-Team All-Pro this season. Going six seasons in between his previous Pro Bowl appearance, Boswell only missed three field goals on the season where one was blocked and the other two were at or beyond 57 yards. It would be difficult for Boswell to top his 2024, but the best thing he can do is try.
